Dr. Derek Ganong is a multifaceted trumpeter, educator, and technologist redefining the boundaries of genre and discipline. As Associate Professor of Trumpet and Director of Jazz at Boise State University, he balances a rigorous performance schedule with leadership roles in higher education and the arts, including his work as Executive Director of the Gene Harris Jazz Festival.
 

An elite performer across all genres and styles, Derek holds principal positions in Opera Idaho and the Boise Baroque Orchestra while remaining a sought-after recording artist and collaborator on the jazz, contemporary, and commercial music scenes. He is the leading authority on the Laurie Frink trumpet method and a pioneer in music production pedagogy. Dr. Ganong holds degrees from UCLA, NYU, and the University of Miami, spanning the fields of trumpet performance, ethnomusicology, and computational science.
